This Tone worksheet is suited for KS3 and KS4 students. This worksheet can be delivered by a specialist or non-specialist as part of a cover lesson. The tasks focus on drawing a shell (natural form) with added tone.
The following tasks are included:
Task 1: Replicate the Tonal Value Chart below. Using a pencil (ideally a 2B pencil) shade the blank chart. It should show a gradient of tones from dark to light.
Task 2: Replicate the drawing of the shell. It shows a real depth of tones from light to dark.
First, focus on drawing the outline of the shell lightly in pencil.
Add the tone – start with the lighter tones, as you can adjust these by making them darker if needed. You might prefer to add in the shadow first, so you can see the darkest tone you can create with your pencil.
Remember to refer to your Tonal Value Chart to help you add a variety of tones to your drawing.

Here you have one lesson suitable for GCSE Food students. The lesson focuses on Planning a meal/Menu for LATER ADULTHOOD. The students will recall their prior knowledge answer the 6 mark question then self assess against the model answer and mark scheme. This lesson is a full lesson including a starter, main and plenary with all necessary printables. It can be delivered by a specialist or non-specialist as all answers and guidance has been provided. A great lesson preparing students for their food written exam.
What the students are asked to do:
The students are provided with the Question, they are then encouraged to recall their prior knowledge on the topic and answer the question under timed conditions. Students will then explore the topic of Planning a Menu for residents in a residential home (later adulthood) by creating a mind map and discussing the facts page provided. A model answer of the question has been included to help assist students to peer and self assess their answer.

What to expect in the exam
Introducing command words - lists the command words found in the food exams- anything from identify to discuss and provides clear definitions.
Example food questions (for section B) and answers focusing on 3 different command words. Once the teacher has shown the model answer, they then have the opportunity to refer to the mark scheme (already included in PPT) for that specific answer. If they then “right click” the answer will appear, but this time highlighting the specific content which meets the mark scheme.
